Theresa Silva Appointed Interim Principal for Lincoln Elementary School

On Monday, August 6, the District 97 Board of Education approved the appointment of Theresa Silva to the position of interim principal for Lincoln Elementary School for the 2018-19 school year. Silva will replace Dr. Lisa Carlos, who resigned in June to accept a principal position with Community Consolidated School District 62 in Des Plaines.

“I want to congratulate Theresa on her appointment, and welcome her to our district,” said Superintendent Carol Kelley. “I believe that her extensive knowledge and experience will be instrumental in ensuring that the entire Lincoln community enjoys a positive, productive and successful school year.”

Silva joins District 97 with more than 20 years of experience in education, 15 of which have been spent serving as a principal in districts 86 (Edna Keith Elementary School in Joliet), 88 (Grant Elementary School in Bellwood), 130 (Paul Revere Primary, Greenwood School and Whittier Intermediate School in Blue Island) and 103 (Lincoln Elementary School in Brookfield). She was also an assistant principal for Gompers Junior High School in District 86, a second, third and eighth grade teacher at Sawyer Elementary School in Chicago, and a seventh/eighth grade writing teacher for Catalyst Maria School in Chicago.

Silva, who has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in education administration from Saint Xavier University, says she is looking forward to what promises to be an exciting year at Lincoln.

“I am incredibly honored to have been selected as the interim principal for Lincoln, and am eager to begin working with students, staff and families on the shared goals and plans for our school,” said Silva. “I am also thrilled to be leading what will be an important year for the Lincoln community that includes preparing for the expansion that is scheduled to take place next summer.”

Superintendent Kelley provided an update on the district’s plans to find a permanent replacement for the position.

“We anticipate that our search to find a permanent replacement for the Lincoln principal position will begin after the first of the year,” said Kelley. “We will provide additional details about this search in the months ahead, including information about how the members of the school’s community can participate in the process.”
