Keyboarding on the Report Card

Effective and efficient computer use is essential to students today and keyboarding skills provide an important foundation.  Students in grades 3 - 5 are learning to keyboard using an Internet based computer-guided tutorial program called Custom Typing.

The first goal of keyboarding instruction at the elementary level is to develop proper technique. Short, frequent practice sessions focusing on correct fingering help students develop the muscle memory they need to build speed naturally with continued practice. In addition to completing lessons at school, students can use the program at home and progress faster through the tutorial.

We will be looking for steady progress from each studentŐs starting speed and accuracy. Keyboarding becomes an effective means of recording information when it is faster than handwriting.
