Welcome to music at Longfellow School.
Music is food for the soul
Welcome to the 2012-13 music program year. We are looking forward to an exciting year of singing, saying, playing, moving and creating,
General Music K-5 - All classes at Longfellow have general music two times a week for 33 minutes. I teach all third fourth and 5th grade classes as well as Mr Naber and Mr. Podlasek's second grades, and Ms. Wieczorek and Ms. Huber's first grade classes and Ms. Vietzen's kindergarten in the music room. Mrs. Judy Friesen teaches all other Longfellow second, first and kindergarten classes.
Vocal Music - Grades 4 & 5 - The Longfellow Chorus is open to any 4th and 5th grader who loves to sing. We rehearse on Wednesday mornings 8:15-9:00 in the auditorium. There are performances throughout the year including the District Choral Festival Wednesday April 10, 2013.
Instrumental Music - Longfellow students may sign up for beginning band or orchestra lessons at the beginning of 4th or 5th grade. The lessons are free and the directors will help the families rent an instrument. In year one, our instrumentalists meet for small group lessons for one 30-minute period per week. In year two, they meet as a small group of like instruments for one 30-minute period per week, and also meet for a full ensemble rehearsal for 45-minute period.

Cinderella came to Longfellow in October, thank you Longfellow PTO!
We are so fortunate to have the Opera for the Young visit our school again this year. A huge thank you to the Longfellow PTO for once again for covering the fee for the opera. All of our students learn some of the singing parts of the opera, and a few also become part of the performance experience on the day of the performance. This is the ninth year the PTO has brought the opera to Longfellow Elementary! Thank you Longfellow PTO.5th Grade class to visit the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on April 30, 2013.
