Special Education Coordinator - Early Childhood

Responsibilities Include:

  • oversight of the delivery of special education services in District 97 Early Childhood Special Education programs (Whittier and Holmes)
  • each September, assist the principal with informing the faculty regarding the Student Services Team functions, i.e., identification, referral, evaluation, and placement procedures.
  • scheduling, coordinating and chairing IEP meetings for students' early childhood programs
  • scheduling, coordinating and chairing IEP meetings for all students transitioning from early intervention programs (birth to three years of age) into early childhood programs and from early childhood to Kindergarten
  • assisting case managers with parent/guardian communication on an as-needed basis
  • providing feedback to Assistant Director and Director regarding potential compliance problem areas within the schools
  • observing all legal regulations regarding parent/guardian notification, time limitations, etc.
  • providing appropriate paperwork to the parent/guardians at staffings.
  • serving as a resource to Case Managers, Principals, and Related Services staff
  • acting as a liaison for parent/guardians as they deal with various District 97 staff
  • providing technical assistance to parent/guardians and staff
