The image selected apears as a thumbnail, with the size. This
is helpful information. Be sure that the "k" is as
small as possible. This could be where you use an image editing
program to optimize the image. Later when you attempt things
like rollovers, you'll want to name the image, so get into the
habit of naming each image now! This is not a file name, but
a short single word that will identify the image.
W/H of course are the width and height of the image
in pixels. Do NOT change the size using DreamWeaver. While it
CAN make it smaller, it is better to go to a graphics program
to reduce the size. Otherwise the browser not only has to deal
with a large memory graphic, but it will also have to calculate
the reduced size. This takes time. People don't like to wait!
Src: Source - or where the image actually was when you
put it on the page. DO be sure your graphics are within your
site folder before adding them to the page.
Link: If you want the image to link to another page
or another site, type the URL in the space OR click the folder
to browse within your own site for the file to which the connection
is to be made.
Align: Most of the time this will be Right or
Left with words wrapping around the image. For a bullet
type list with an image in front of each item, use Middle.
The words will align with the middle of the graphic.
Alt: Alternate text. This is very important - always
use it. Type a description of the graphic. Do not just say "picture"
or "logo" but describe what it's about. This is read
by text readers for the blind. It's also useful for those who
have graphics turned off. The description may cause them to
load that particular image if it is of interest to them.
