The History of Multiage Education at Whittier School

1995
A halftime multiage program was implemented.

1996
Multiage expanded in the Fall to include five and six year olds.

1997
Looping (single grade classrooms where students continue with a teacher for two years) began at Whittier. Multiage began at other Oak Park schools.

2001
Two sections of 2/3 multiage began at Whittier. All of the fourth and fifth grade classrooms began using a looping model. Three sections of K/1/2 multiage classrooms began at Whittier.

2006
Whittier celebrated its tenth anniversary of multiage programming.
4/5 multiage classrooms were added, giving students the option to participate in multiage programming at every grade level at Whittier.
