Parent involvement in a child's education
is directly correlated to the child's success. SLT Thursday Family Nights
are a great way to get involved. On scheduled Thursdays throughout the
year, parents, teachers, and students gather in the community room for
a night
of study and fun. The night begins at 5:30 with a dinner. Following some
good food and conversation, everyone moves to either the library or the
gym. The Whittier gym is open for play. Students work in the library
with parents and teachers. They read, work with educational software,
and work on homework projects. Special guests occasionally attend to
speak with the parents and staff. Dr. Collins, the superintendant of
schools for Oak Park District #97, and Nile Gosset, a professional diversity
trainer and speaker, spoke last year with parents and students about
helping students to succeed.

The next
Family Night is scheduled for October 30th at 5:30.
We hope to see you next Thursday night.
