Welcome to Mrs. Hayes' Website!

Welcome to the 2017-18 school year!

We started this school year with an August "Meet and Greet."   It was great having some interactions with each other, along with bringing in school supplies, and getting a bit familiar with this year's classroom setting.  It was a great opportunity for me to meet both students and parents before the school year began!

I have a Master's Degree in Education, and this is my 20th year of teaching at Lincoln School, my 32nd year of teaching over all.  They have been great years!  Our 2nd-grade team works together well to clarify, organize, and share activities in our curriculum.

Our curriculum includes:  "Reading Units of Study," by Lucy Calkins, Treasures by Macmillan/McGraw Hill, plus Common Core State Standards supplementary materials.  "Common Core Writing Workshop," by Lucy Calkins is influential for writing skills.  Math is Eureka Math, published by Great Minds, 2015.  Our Social Studies curriculum is Neighborhoods, by Houghton Mifflin.  Science is Next Generation Science:  Foss Science, "Pebbles, Sand, and Silt;" "Solids and Liquids;" and "Insects and Plants."

Special Programs include:  FLES (Foreign Language Experience in Spanish) and "Second Step:  Skills for Social and Academic Success," by Committee for Children.  Technology programs include:  Connect Ed., ZEARN, Extra Math, and other programs as taught and as are available.

Parent communication is very important to me.  Please feel free to use my email:  [email protected].  You will also receive classroom newsletters, parent information from the district, student work samples, and anecdotal remarks in the "Take-Home Folder," which will come home at the beginning of every week.  You may receive occasional "Parent-Group" emails from me as well.  My door is always open to meet together to discuss your child's progress.  These "Parent-Teacher Communication Tools" are vital to the ongoing progress of your child's learning.  I value our relationships!
