Classroom Information:

*Be sure your child comes to school each day with a water bottle filled with cold water and a snack.  Water only please.

*Healthy Snacks can be eaten at any point during the school day. Our classrooms are safe places for all children.  Due to allergies, food brought into our Third grade classrooms must Not contain:  peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, eggs (baked okay), and shellfish. 

Our students are not permitted to share snacks and the type of snacks that are permitted are outlined below.  As you can see, this list does not contain brand names.  We will need parents to ensure that the products below do not contain nuts. Per district policy, snacks must be “peanut/ tree nut free.” That means they cannot contain peanuts, peanut butter, or tree nuts such as almonds, walnuts, cashews, hazelnuts, pecans etc. Please ensure you read the labels of your food.  Food must not contain the following warnings and/or ingredients:

  • Peanuts or tree nuts are listed as an ingredient
  • “May contain nuts” warning
  • “Food may have been processed in a facility that contains nuts” warning

  • Fresh Fruit
  • Dried Fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Apple Squeezers
  • String Cheese
  • Veggie or Fruit Chips/Sticks (only plain or original)
  • Toasted Oats or O’s
  • Crackers (only plain or original)
  • Graham Crackers
  • Pirate's Booty
  • Plain Pretzels          
  • Plain Popcorn

*Red take-home folder and assignment notebook - You should look for these to come home every day.  Please check and sign the assignment notebook each evening to indicate that your child has completed their assignments. Please help your child remember to bring these items to and from school daily.  If students arrive without the proper materials it is difficult for them to get started on their day.

*Birthday Celebrations are Food FreeOur class count is 23.  Your child is welcome to bring in something to celebrate their birthday if they wish.  Below are some ideas for in class celebrations.  Please make sure to let me know what you plan to do. You are more than welcome to celebrate with us.  If your child’s birthday is in the summer, we can celebrate on his or her half birthday.

  • Buy/donate something to the classroom such as a book, game, toy, music, plant, etc.
  • Give out small party favors such as:
  • Little notepads
  • Little toys from somewhere such as Oriental Trading Company
  • Stickers
  • Bouncy balls
  • Pencils
  • Pens
  • Fun erasers
  • Bottles of bubbles
  • Come to class to do an arts & craft activity.  Please be aware some supplies have ingredients that include nuts or food allergens.
  • Read a story to the class.
  • Bring something for all children to sign as a birthday treat for the birthday student such as a pillowcase, t-shirt, or tote bag.

*At Longfellow, our students can earn Bear Necessities for demonstrating respectful, responsible, and safe behavior. Each week, students may turn in their Bear Necessities to participate in a raffle.  Donations of items that can be used as prizes are always appreciated.
