Middle School – Focus Group

We are currently seeking parents/guardians who have time and are interested in helping us explore and assess how our existing master schedule structures align with the district’s vision and goals. More specifically, we are looking for people to provide us with their thoughts and feedback on the following two questions during a pair of focus groups we will be holding later this month. HERO Launch

Julian is now a HERO school! HERO encourages positive student behavior choices. Our goal at Julian is to promote a safe and welcoming environment for all students to be known, nurtured and celebrated learners.

During the first trimester, Julian has set a school wide goal of using technology appropriately that will be tracked in HERO. This means technology is charged, used for learning purposes only and used at the teachers’ request. We will provide positive reinforcement through HERO for students who are meeting this expectation. If 85% of Julian students achieve this goal, across class periods, we will celebrate our success as a school on November 20. The details of our celebration will be determined by student input to ensure it is an engaging event for all.

Ways in which we recognize positive student behavior using HERO will evolve throughout the school year based on our areas of strength and need as building. We will continue to keep our community informed as to the big goals we are working on tracking and reinforcing as a school. Students each have a unique Hero login account that will allow them to see the points that they are earning on a daily basis.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me, your student’s Assistant Principal or your student’s teachers.  We are excited to acknowledge and promote students making positive choices!

Julian - Mock Election

Coming soon to Julian: a mock election for all students!

On October 31 and November 1, Humanities teachers will have the option of bringing their classes or sending to the library students who want to vote. Students will vote on a google form by indicating their grade and their votes for the races and local referenda. We will have "I Voted!" stickers for them and will publish the results. A modified list of races and referenda are here. Each race has linked information that students can use as they decide their votes. The Oak Park League of Women's Voters helped us borrow voting booths from the The Cook County Clerk's Office so that we can provide a more authentic feel to the experience.

Here's to a positive civic learning experience for our students!

Support4U
In May, districts 97, 90 and 200 partnered together to launch a new mental healcreate a short video about Support4Uth-related prevention and support resource for middle and high school students called Support4U. Students can use this text-based resource 24 hours a day to connect with licensed mental health clinicians who can provide them with assistance or guidance on a variety of issues that include, but are not limited to, anxiety, depression, substance use, suicidal ideation, eating disorders, bullying and abuse.

During the past few weeks, leaders from the three districts, the Community Mental Health Board of Oak Park Township and NAMI Metro Suburban came together to create a short video about Support4U. You can access this video by visiting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeU9lBiq12U
