World Language Curriculum

The Oak Park District 97 World Language Program cultivates authentic language and cultural awareness to enable students to achieve meaningful communication in the target language. Students develop an understanding and appreciation of diversity in their own community as well as a connection to a multilingual global society. Through enthusiastic, collaborative, and differentiated instruction, students are inspired to become lifelong learners who can apply classroom experiences to the larger linguistic and cultural world. The World Language curriculum is student-centered, engaging learners through their multiple intelligences in a literacy rich environment. Instruction is scaffolded to support students at each stage in the language acquisition process, and includes reading, writing, speaking, and listening communication and technological skills required for 21st century learners.
