Summer Launch
Summer Launch is D97’s summer program for students who have been identified for Tier 3 interventions in their schools. Participation in the Summer Launch program is by invitation only, and is free to students (with a $25 non-refundable registration fee). Invitation letters are emailed to parents in late January.
The District 97 Summer Launch program is for incoming students in kindergarten through fourth grade and includes Reading/Writing Workshop and Math Workshop, in which students are able to build upon the reading and writing strategies they learn during the regular school year, as well as participate in rich, high-quality math activities. Summer Launch also helps students:
- Continue to build their skills towards becoming strong, confident readers and writers
- Receive personalized instruction in reading and writing
- Share their voices and feel valued
- Build meaningful connections with their teacher and peers
- Engage in rich mathematical learning and support
For incoming students in fifth through eighth grade, the program includes Problem Based Learning through HEPH ED Steam curriculum which is a student-centered, project based, multi-disciplinary STEAM education platform specifically designed to help learners get excited about STEM, problem-solving, and the future of work. Summer Launch also helps students:
- Engage in lessons that incorporate English language arts and mathematics activities
- Solve problems with the aid of exciting STEM tools and activities
- Participate in hands-on activities and topics including robotics, pre-engineering, 3D printing and world-building in a video game environment.
