Visual Arts is an integral part of the D97 Curriculum and balances academic learning to develop the whole child. Our Art Curriculum is experiential; students learn best by doing. The sequential elementary curriculum builds upon art making skills to prepare students for the independent studio experience within the IB middle years program. Children are active learners, and making art in the 21st century involves both hands-on activities and technology to expand imagination and creativity. In the art room we develop small motor control, hand-eye coordination, personal and cultural perspectives, empowering our students to express their unique feelings and experiences. Making art sharpens the powers of observation and concentration and builds creative problem solving skills students will use throughout their lives.
