"Mindful Middle-Schoolers" Program Offers Educational and Therapeutic Services

The Community Mental Health Board of Oak Park Township, Oak Park Elementary School District 97, and DePaul University’s Community Counseling Center have partnered to deliver a vast array of educational and therapeutic services to staff, families, and youth. The “Mindful Middle-Schoolers Program” will offer staff training, parent workshops, groups and counseling for middle school students in Oak Park during the 2019-20 school year.

“This innovative initiative will play a crucial role in helping District 97 to better address anxiety, depression, electronic addition and executive functioning, which are top health concerns of our youth," said Lisa DeVivo, executive director of the Community Mental Health Board.

"We appreciate this opportunity to collaborate with the Community Mental Health Board and DePaul University to provide services that support the needs of the whole child," said Dr. Carrie Kamm, senior director of equity for District 97.

The purpose of the Community Mental Health Board is to assist in planning, developing, coordinating, evaluating and funding mental health services in Oak Park. This includes services for persons with mental disorders, alcohol or other drug dependence or developmental disorders. The Township’s Community Mental Health Fund provides over $1 million in financial support for programs and services to 19 agencies.

For more information regarding this service please contact Lisa DeVivo, executive director of the Community Mental Health Board of Oak Park Township, at 708-358-8855.
