About District 97

District 97 is the public elementary school district located in Oak Park, Illinois. The district has eight elementary schools and two middle schools, provides a well-rounded education to more than 5,500 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, and employs more than 900 highly qualified certified and non-certified staff members.

Oak Park is located in Cook County, adjacent to Chicago, and is the 29th-most populous municipality in Illinois with a population of 54,583 as of the 2020 U.S. Census. 

District 97 is a highly diverse school community. We are racially and economically diverse, with about 46% of our students identifying as African American, Hispanic, Asian or multiracial. Oak Park has long embraced the LGBTQI+ community, and the village has a mix of homeowners and renters.
