Making MyD97 Better Award: The Lincoln Tech Club

In December 2019, we introduced our new "Making MyD97 Better" Award, which recognizes staff, students, parents and community members who are making District 97 a better place for all. We choose a winner each month, and share their stories through our newsletters, website and social media pages.

We are proud to announce our "Making MyD97 Better" winner for March 2020—the Tech Club at Lincoln Elementary School!

The Lincoln Tech Club was started this winter by the school's fifth-grade design team as a way to teach staff members and students about the benefits of technology both in and out of the classroom. Student leaders worked together to organize, advertise and facilitate the club's launch earlier this year. As a result of their work, more than 80 students in Lincoln's fifth-grade class have demonstrated interest in joining the club.

Tech Club students have been working closely with teachers Marvin Childress and Rob Breit, as well educator Meg Ormiston. They have designed new projects each week, utilizing new equipment and 21st Century learning spaces in the newly-renovated Lincoln library. Childress said he is already seeing the positive impact of the club as students are empowered to use digital tools to enhance their learning experiences.

The Tech Club was presented their award on March 12, our last day of school. We wanted to be sure that they receive all the recognition they deserve. Please join us in celebrating these amazing students!
