Oak Park and River Forest High School announced Wednesday that all camps for youth through eighth-grade, including Huskie Swim Lessons Camp, have been canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The letter from the OPRF Athletics Department is included below.
Dear Oak Park and River Forest Families,
We hope that this communication finds you and your children healthy, safe, and well during this challenging time. It is with great disappointment that we are announcing the cancellation of the youth portion of our annual Summer Camp Program (children up to incoming 8th grade students). This includes the Huskie Swim Lessons Camp for children ages 4-10.
This was an incredibly difficult decision to make, as this type of community activity is important to us as a school district. However, in consideration of the safety of all participants, we are unable to properly support these programs this summer due the extraordinary and unanticipated circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.
We realize that our Youth Camp Program is a significant connection between the school district and our community, and we also know that families need time to plan logistical arrangements for their children when they attend these type of activities. With that in mind, we feel this is the best decision at this time, so that families can make alternative plans for their children this summer.
Please note that this decision currently affects only the Youth Summer Camps and Huskie Swim Camp (children up to incoming 8th grade students). Offering a robust summer camp experience for our high school students remains a priority for us. We are still reviewing plans for our High School Camp Program (incoming 9-12th grade students) and final decisions have yet to be determined. However, our ability to run these programs may depend upon local, state, and federal guidelines regarding group activities.
