District 97 Board to Discuss Use of Student Resource Officers

Dear District 97 Community,

First, we want to acknowledge and thank the parents and community members who wrote to the District 97 Board of Education and administration regarding the use of school resource officers (SROs) in our middle schools. We take your thoughts—along with the experiences shared by our middle school students—very seriously.

The board is preparing to discuss the use of SROs during our next business meeting on July 14, and we have already started preliminary discussions with the village about the possibility of terminating our current intergovernmental agreement (IGA). We believe that there is nothing more important than all of our students feeling safe, cared for, and protected in our schools, and we are looking forward to having an open and honest discussion about the best path forward.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership as we work to provide a safe and positive learning environment for all District 97 students. If you would like to share additional thoughts or feedback with the district, please email [email protected] or send a message through Let's Talk.

Sincerely,
District 97 Board of Education
