Making MyD97 Better Award: Michelle Lottie

District 97’s "Making MyD97 Better" Award recognizes staff, students, parents and community members who are making our schools a better place for all. The district will choose a winner each month, and share their stories through our newsletters, website and social media pages.

We are thrilled to announce our "Making MyD97 Better" winner for January 2022: Michelle Lottie, administrative assistant at Mann Elementary School.

For more than 20 years, Michelle has served Mann students, families and staff members with warmth, skill and professionalism. Drawings, cards and photos from students cover the walls of Michelle’s office. “You are an aunt to me,” one note says. “You are the reason I love school.”

While expertly managing the day-to-day operations of the office, Michelle cares for those who walk through its doors as if they were her own. One of these students, Mann fourth-grader Maddy Wallace, nominated Michelle for the Making MyD97 Better Award, pointing to her generous spirit.

“Mrs. Lottie is always staying positive, helping out and making sure everybody is ok," Maddy said.

“I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving to be receiving this honor. Mrs. Lottie is beloved by our students, families and staff,” Mann principal Hussain Ali said. “She is a friendly face that people can go to when they need to talk, share a laugh or need help in supporting their students. She has been instrumental in my transition as the building principal in the last year and a half and I’d be lost without her.”
