District 97 will be closed on Monday, June 20, in observance of Juneteenth (June 19). Summer learning programs will resume and the district office will reopen on Tuesday, June 21.
Juneteenth is an annual state and federal holiday that commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. It marks June 19, 1865, the day all enslaved were made aware of the Emancipation Proclamation and were officially released. It’s also known as "Juneteenth Independence Day," "Emancipation Day" and "Freedom Day."
Juneteenth Parade and Community Picnic - June 19, 2022
Oak Park's Juneteenth celebration culminates with a parade and community picnic on Sunday, June 19. The parade steps off at 11 a.m. from Longfellow Park near Jackson Boulevard and will march north on Ridgeland Avenue to Augusta Street. Community groups and organizations are invited to participate in the parade.
