District 97 Music Education Program Receives National Recognition for Fifth Straight Year

For the fifth year in a row, District 97 has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.

Now in its 25th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, District 97 answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

The music department at District 97 provides excellent instruction in general music for kindergarten through fifth grade, as well as fourth- through eighth-grade band, choir and orchestra.

"We are proud of District 97's continued recognition as one of the Best Communities for Music Education by The NAMM Foundation for the fifth consecutive year,” District 97 Superintendent Ushma Shah said. “The arts play a vital role in the vibrance of our district and in the future of our democracy too. We are grateful for the dedication of our teachers, staff and community partners in bringing the joy of music to our students.”
