D97 Launches Program to Support Transition from Elementary to Middle School

District 97 is pleased to announce an exciting new program designed to help incoming sixth-graders transition smoothly from elementary to middle school. "District 97 Middle School Connection" is a three-day program aimed at building confidence, fostering connections, and providing a strong start for students entering Brooks and Julian Middle Schools this fall.

The program will take place from August 13-15, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at each middle school. All incoming sixth-graders are welcome to attend, though participation is not mandatory.

Why Middle School Connection?

Transitioning from elementary to middle school can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. Students are not only changing school buildings but also undergoing significant developmental changes. District 97 Middle School Connection aims to build confidence, create connections, and ensure a smooth start at Brooks Middle School.

Program Details

Dates: August 13-15, 2024
Time: 9 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
Location: Brooks Middle School and Julian Middle School
Cost: Free for all District 97 incoming sixth-graders
Transportation: Provided for students assigned to a bus route
Lunch: Provided at no cost
Sign-Up Deadline: May 9, 2024

Program Goals:

  • Foster a sense of belonging and community among incoming sixth-grade students. 
  • Provide opportunities for students to develop social-emotional skills and build positive relationships with peers and teachers.
  • Introduce students to the academic expectations of middle school.
  • Equip students with strategies to support success in sixth grade and middle school.
  • Address any anxieties or concerns students may have about transitioning to middle school.
