District 97 Educators Recognized through ISBE’s 2026 Those Who Excel Awards
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has recognized several District 97 educators through its 2026 Those Who Excel and Teacher of the Year awards, highlighting the powerful work happening in our schools each day.
Elyse Smith Named Cook County Co-Regional Teacher of the Year
Elyse Smith, kindergarten teacher at Mann Elementary School, has been named Cook County Co-Regional Teacher of the Year and selected as a member of the 2026 Illinois Teacher of the Year Cohort.
This honor places her in consideration for Illinois Teacher of the Year, the highest teaching distinction in the state.
We are thrilled to see Elyse’s dedication, leadership, and commitment to students recognized at the state level.
Those Who Excel Honorees
Two additional District 97 leaders were recognized through the 2026 Those Who Excel awards:
- Dr. Eboney Lofton, Chief Learning Innovation Officer – Award of Special Recognition (School Administrator category)
- Molly Masters, Second Grade Special Education Teacher, Longfellow Elementary School – Award of Excellence (Classroom Teacher category)
