Community Safety Alert and Reminders for Families: June 25, 2026

Dear Families,

We are writing to make you aware of a community safety alert issued by the Village of Oak Park regarding a reported criminal sexual assault that occurred on Wednesday, June 24. According to the alert, the incident involved a juvenile and is currently under investigation by the Oak Park Police Department.

Although most of our schools are closed for the summer, many District 97 students are participating in summer programs and activities throughout the community. We are sharing this information so families are aware of the community alert and can use it as an opportunity to talk with their children about personal safety. Out of respect for the privacy of those involved and the ongoing investigation, we will not provide additional details beyond those shared by law enforcement.

The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. We encourage families to review important safety tips, and to remind their children to stay aware of their surroundings, travel with others when possible, trust their instincts, and tell a trusted adult immediately if something makes them feel unsafe.

If you or your child has information that may assist the investigation, please contact the Oak Park Police Department using the contact information provided in the community alert.

Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school community safe.

Sincerely,

Dr. Eboney Lofton
Chief Learning Innovation Officer
Oak Park Elementary School District 97
