Newsletter for Week of October 16
Parent/Teacher Conferences
If you have not signed up for parent/teacher conferences with one of your student's teachers, please do so. Teachers are using an online scheduling program, VolunteerSpot, to set up these appointments. If you did not receive an email from VolunteerSpot and would like to set up a conference, please reach out to your student's team leader.
Early Dismissal will occur on Thursday, October 22 and Friday, October 23 as a result of conferences. Student hours are 9:00 am - 12:00 pm on those days.
New Oak Park Education Foundation (OPEF) Program
Spoken Word, Oak Park Education Foundation's newest free in-school program, will be happening in 7th grade Language Arts classes at Julian between Oct 26-Nov 20. We are really excited for this program that will foster creativity and self-expression in our students. Learn more here. OPEF is also launching a Spoken Word Club open for all 6th-8th graders that will start in December.
CAST Update
This is an exciting week here at CAST as they prepare to go on tour! Our first show of the 2015-16 season will be presented at two of our elementary schools, Beye and Irving. CAST will be presenting Matahei, The Stutterer, a magical tale that focuses on a young man who has great artistic talent but cannot be considered a great painter because of a tremendous stutter. Luckily, his sister is his tireless advocate and helps him to earn respect from all and most importantly, himself.
Please come and support our young actors as they share their talent and passion with their former schools. The plays will be presented at Beye School on Friday, October 16 at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm and at Irving School on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 pm and Thursday Oct. 22 at 10:00 am. Tickets are $5 and everyone is welcome!
Halloween Dance/Costumes
The PTO will be sponsoring a Halloween Dance on Friday, October 30 from 4:00-6:00 pm in the commons here at Julian. We are hoping to have a great turnout. The Service Learning Club is asking students to donate a canned good in exchange for being able to wear a costume to school on that day. The goods will help tremendously in supporting our community service efforts. Click here for more information related to acceptable costumes.
