Student Innovation Team
Julian Middle School is forming a Student Innovation Team consisting of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to support the technological needs of students and teachers. The team's collaboration will build the framework for its future and development. These students will aid in the use of multiple applications, iPad troubleshooting, Canvas navigation, etc. Our goal is to not only offer significant leadership opportunities for this team, but to meet the progressive needs of students and teachers as it pertains to instructional technology. For more information or an application click here. Students interested should submit a paper application to the Media Center by January 8, 2016. Additional applications are also available in the Media Center.
Turf Field is Ready to Go
Work on the field behind Julian Middle School was completed during Thanksgiving Break. It looks pretty awesome and staff/students are excited about its availability. Due to winter weather, PE classes will remain indoors for much of the 2nd trimester. We will be providing students the opportunity to use the field during lunch recess whenever possible. Thanks to D97 and the Park District for partnering on this project. The new field will impact our students in a positive way throughout the rest of the school year and into the future.
6th Grade Morning Arrival to School
As a result of the construction on the back field being completed, 6th grade students will now enter Julian Middle School through the back doors each morning. These doors are just west of the turf field in back of the school.
"On Time and Ready"
We kicked off our "On Time and Ready" campaign yesterday with team advisory meetings sharing expectations with our students about what it means to be on time and ready for class. Teachers have also been revisiting expectations with students in their classes to make sure everyone is on the same page.
"On Time" - students are in their seats when class begins.
"Ready" - students have the necessary supplies, work required, and their charged iPad.
Our approach is very positive in nature and is focusing on developing IB attributes like being principled, balanced, and reflective. Being on time and ready is a life skill that will serve our students well at Julian and in the future.
On time and Ready Freddy says, "The beginning of a great day begins a night before." and "To be prepared is half the victory."
Upcoming CAST Shows
CAST will be presenting 3 different shows next weekend, As You Like It, Bronte Sisters Eccentric Lives, and Number The Stars. The 3 plays all focus on different “sister” relationships and will be presented in a theater in the round setting. We invite everyone to come share in this intimate, personal theatrical experience.
Here is a brief synopsis of just one of the great plays being presented next weekend:
"As You Like It" tells the story of a girl named Rosalind. She has a confusing family life (her father has been banished), a crush on a boy (who can’t speak when he’s around her), and a home that she feels is not totally stable (wrestling matches are constantly held in her backyard). In other words, Rosalind has a lot in common with the students at our school. But Rosalind escapes to the forest and pretends to be somebody else. She discovers that she’s much better at solving her problems when she’s somebody else...when she doesn’t have to be stuck being Rosalind. n this way "As You Like It" is a little like a metaphor for why we do plays at CAST; sometimes middle school life can feel overwhelming and having the chance to be another person that doesn’t have your problems can be really liberating.
The show schedule is as follows:
- As You Like It - Thursday, Dec. 10 and Friday Dec. 11 at 7:30
- Bronte Sisters - Saturday, Dec. 12 at 3:30 and 7:30
- Number The Stars - Sunday, Dec. 13 at 3:30 and 7:30
Seating is very limited, so please purchase your tickets ahead of time. You may purchase your tickets here.
