Julian Codes!

Next week all Percy Julian Middle School students will participate in "". Coding is a set of instructions put together to make computers and programs operate; in many respects, it is the language of the 21st century. Coding nurtures problem solving, risk-taking, and creativity. To build on the exposure students have to coding in Design classes here at Julian, from February 4-10 all students will spend a class period coding on their iPads using code.org/learn. One video we recommend for learning more is “The Hour of Code is Here.”

Here’s to happy coding!

Thanks to Ms. Brennan (Data Coach) & Ms. Winchell (Teacher Librarian) for working with the science teachers to provide this opportunity for our students.

World Language Information Shared with 5th Graders

Last week, we had a small number of 8th grade students visit Longfellow, Beye, Irving, and Mann to share information with our incoming 5th graders about our World Language program at Julian Middle School. The 8th graders offered insight about the importance of taking a world language in middle school. Eighth grade students taking Spanish III as well as French III shared their experiences and insight with the 5th graders. World language teachers and our IB coordinator participated in the visits as well. The 5th graders at all of our feeder schools were excited to chat with these seasoned middle school students and hear their advice. Thanks to the following 8th graders for taking part in this important transition event: Amy Matticks, Clayton Smith, Rachel Young, Parisa Gharavi, Matthew Labuda, Eleanor Babwin, Zachary Traczyk, Jenna Schainis, and Alexandra Weisman.

Student Innovation Team

The Julian Middle School Student Innovation Team is up and running. The team has already offered a lot of feedback to our teachers related to Canvas and they are in the process of creating a directory of help services. These students will aid in the use of multiple applications, iPad troubleshooting, Canvas navigation, etc. Our goal is to not only offer significant leadership opportunities for this team, but to meet the progressive needs of students and teachers as it pertains to instructional technology.  Thanks to the following students for completing the application process and joining the team: Matylda Jamroz, Noah Oxer, Brady Walters, Dakota Pepper, Wilken Rose, Gianna Mainsah, Maxwell Banghart, and Finn Greenstone.
