International Baccalaureate (IB) Mission Statement

The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Making someone's day is just a click away! Middle school can be a tough time for some students for an array of reasons, social media being one of them. Negativity happens from time to time over the Internet. We have created a website that is all about radiating positivity. This website will make people feel better about themselves and boost their self-esteem.  You can post anything positive on the website, even anonymously.  A student administrator will approve all posts before being going live on the site.  To access our website, you can follow our Instagram account @JulianPositivity and click on the link in the biography.  You can also look at the many signs around the school with a QR code and scan that. Author Visits Julian Middle School

Popular middle grades fiction author Chris Grabenstein wowed 6th grade students on Thursday, February 18. In addition to sharing the scope of his unique career, he used a variety of methods to involve students in the messages that reading/writing/thinking are FUN and that intellectual freedom is each person's right. Mr. Grabenstein signed and personalized books that students were able to purchase at a 20% discount from the Magic Tree Bookstore. We are so grateful to Magic Tree for bringing this amusing and inspiring author to Julian!

The Julian Library has many of Mr. Grabenstein's books available for students to check out: Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library, Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics, The Island of Dr. Libris and the series he co-authored with James Patterson: I Funny and Treasure Hunters.

Interactive, Modern Music Event / Thursday, March 10
Participate in or Witness a performance of Terry Riley’s In C

In C consists of 53 short, numbered musical phrases, lasting from half a beat to 32 beats; each phrase may be repeated an arbitrary number of times. Each musician has control over which phrase they play.  Players are encouraged to play the phrases starting at different times, even if they are playing the same phrase.  In this way, although the melodic content of the music is predetermined, In C has elements of aleatoric music to it, which leaves elements that are left to chance. Click here to learn more about this event.

Sincerely,

Dr. Todd T. Fitzgerald
