Week of September 9

Curriculum Night-Thursday, September 15

I am reaching out to invite all of you to our Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 15. The first session with teachers will begin promptly at 6:00 pm. The night will provide an opportunity for you to meet teachers and experience your child’s daily schedule. The presentations will focus on the curriculum and what students will learn this year. Due to the number of adults that will be in attendance and the size of our classrooms, we respectfully request that students do not attend. We will provide students with a copy of their schedule on the morning of the event in advisory class. You can also access your child's schedule in PowerSchool. If you are unable to get the schedule for the evening from your student, we will have copies available in the commons.

PowerSchool

PowerSchool is Julian’s online grade book, attendance, and lunch money tool. You can check your student’s attendance record, class grades, status of assignments, lunch money account balance, etc. A link to PowerSchool is located on the Julian home page under "Quick Links." Sixth grade parents/guardians received their student’s ID and password last year when they selected Language B and Arts Courses for middle school. This username and password allows you access to PowerSchool. If you are new to D97 or need assistance with gaining access to PowerSchool, please contact Cory Marshall ([email protected]) or Lonya Boose ([email protected]) in the main office at Julian.

Extracurricular Opportunities at Julian

There are many extra-curricular opportunities offered at Julian. To get information about these activities, click here and find “Programs.”

There are multiple ways that coaches and sponsors get the word out about how and when to join their activity. Daily announcements and signs are posted in the hallways at school that inform students about these opportunities. Information is also on the Julian website and communicated in the PTO weekly email.

Please be aware that all students participating in an extra-curricular sport must have a current physical on file that is not older than 1 year. It is also important to know that each activity leader or coach sets his or her schedule. For example, CAST theater activities are typically after-school, boy’s basketball has had a mix of before and after school practices, and many choir groups and bands meet in the morning.

Please encourage your student(s) to get involved here at school and to take advantage of the many opportunities that we offer.

Strengthening Families Program

The Oak Park Mental Health Board is offering a unique opportunity to Julian Middle School families. This 11-week program will focus on topics like healthy communication, how to resolve conflicts, and how to improve family cohesion. Please see the attached handout for more information about the program.
