Newsletter for Week of September 16

Week of September 16

Instructional Technology/Canvas:

For those of you able to attend curriculum night yesterday, we shared information with you on how to become a parent observer on Canvas that included a username and password. Canvas by Instructure is our school's Learning Management System. Our teachers utilize this platform to post the weekly syllabus, share documents with students, and/or to incorporate discussions, quizzes, and assignments into their daily lessons. If you were unable to attend last night and did not receive this information related to Canvas, we will send it home with your student next Friday, September 23 with PARCC test results.

iPad Use Outside District:

Internet Access outside the school district wifi is being filtered with "Securly". In order for students to gain access to wifi on their student iPads, they will need to complete a series of steps:

-Touch Settings

-Touch Wifi

-Select Wifi at home (or wherever they are located)

-Type in the password

-Go to Safari

-Type in District Google Username including the @students.op97.org

-Type in District Google Password

-Touch login

-You may now access the Internet and Internet based applications outside the district with filtering.

*Please Note: Every time a student changes wifi connections outside the district, the Safari steps will need to be taken before using any Internet related functions on the device.

Second Step

The research-based Second Step program supports schools teach and model essential communication, coping, and decision-making skills that help adolescents navigate around common pitfalls such as peer pressure, substance abuse, and bullying (both in-person and online). Our goal is to teach the whole child and help our students not only develop academic skills but also grow socially and emotionally while at Julian Middle School. Second Step is one of many approaches we use to meet our student's needs. A scope and sequence of topics covered for each grade level throughout the school year has been included.

PARCC Test Scores from Spring 2016

PARCC scores will be sent home with Julian students on Friday, September 23.
