Week of October 21
Good Luck to Mr. Colucci/Teacher of the Year Finalist
John Colucci, one of our 6th grade Language Arts teachers at Julian Middle School has been nominated for Teacher of the Year in the state of Illinois. This is a tremendous honor and accomplishment. Please go to page 3 of the State Superintendent's Weekly Message for a write up on Mr. Colucci. We are extremely proud of John. The winner will be named this Saturday at the "Those Who Excel" banquet in Normal, IL.
Mock Election
Julian students will have the opportunity to vote in a school-wide mock election during the week of October 24. Our Library will turn into a polling place with actual voting booths generously provided by the Oak Park League of Women Voters. Students can digitally cast their votes for Presidential and both Congressional races using The Youth Leadership Initiative’s online mock election. In addition, the local District 200 Facilities referendum will be included on the ballot. We will share the results on Friday, October 28.
A Big Thanks to the Julian PTO
A big thank you goes out to our PTO and parent volunteers for providing the staff at Julian with a wonderful dinner last night at Parent/Teacher Conferences. Pulled pork, vegetarian chili, beef chili, chicken noodle soup, meatballs, corn bread, and a wide variety of other dishes and desserts were on the menu. We appreciate the time and effort that went into making this happen.
Halloween Costumes/Fundraiser
The Service Learning Club has developed a tradition of having students donate canned goods on Halloween. Students are invited to participate in this event on Monday, October 31st. Read more...
