Week of December 9

Goal Setting Update

In an effort to create a positive learning environment that focuses on developing the whole child, students and staff have actively participated in goal setting. Next Thursday during advisory, students will have a reflection/check-in day to gauge how they are progressing with their goals. We will follow up with similar days in January and February. The first round of goal setting will conclude in February when students will determine whether or not they successfully accomplished their goals. We will start another goal setting cycle beginning in March and ending in June. As a way of supporting this goal setting exercise, you can ask your student about his/her goals and discuss them regularly to see if he/she is making progress.

Julian Middle School "Pays It Forward"

  • Over 1,900 individuals throughout the Oak Park River Forest Community completed a request to have a little holiday cheer spread to them. This event is coordinated through the Oak Park River Forest Community of Congregations and is also known as the Holiday Food and Gift Basket Program.
  • Julian sponsored over 50 families!
  • Each advisory picked one or two families to sponsor. This means that the advisory bought and wrapped all the gifts for everyone in the family.
  • Our goal was to have 100% building participation so this means we have kids bring in gifts, tape, wrapping paper, wrap gifts, etc...so everyone feels a part of it.
  • The work that went into coordinating this project occurred during advisory classes through December 8.
  • Gifts were delivered yesterday.

5 Essentials Survey

Julian students will be completing the Illinois 5 Essentials Survey the week of December 19. As a reminder, D97 is encouraging parents to compete the survey as well.
