Day of Professional Learning at Julian Middle School (Institute Day)
Teachers had a productive day of professional learning. The morning session started off with teachers focusing on opportunity structures that enable or prevent us from achieving the D97 vision. Administrators and teachers then participated in a relationship mapping activity to determine which students have a positive connection with an adult in our building. We will be targeting those individuals that were identified as currently not having developed a connection with an adult at Julian Middle School. Our goal is to have ALL students feeling a strong connection to at least one adult in our school. The morning session ended with professional learning that focused on instructional strategies that will further enable teachers to meet the academic and social/emotional needs of ALL our students. Julian Middle School teachers spent the afternoon in department meetings working collaboratively with their colleagues at Brooks Middle School. They continued developing IB units of study and common assessments. The learning that occurred today was directly tied to the D97 vision that Oak Park Schools will create a positive learning environment for all students that is equitable, inclusive and focused on the whole child.
5 Essentials Survey
We are encouraging all parents/guardians to complete the 5 Essentials Survey. The feedback you provide is important to Julian Middle School. The survey will close Monday, January 30.

Sixth grade students will make their arts course selections for the 2017-2018 school year on Monday, February 6 during advisory class. Unfortunately we were unable to do this last week because of technical difficulties with PowerSchool, our online scheduling program.
