Jazz Ensemble Earns Division 1 Rating (Whole Child, Positive Learning Environment)
This past weekend the Jazz Ensemble performed at the Illinois Grade School Music Association District Contest at Edison Middle School in Wheaton. They received a Division 1 rating from all three judges. Only 4 of the 12 bands that performed received a division 1 rating so this really is an honor! We are now qualified to go to State Contest in May! Great job to our students and Mr. Kanwischer.
We are really proud of all the kids and want to thank our parents and community for supporting our music program here at Julian.
VEX Robotics State Championship at Julian Middle School (Whole Child, Equity, Inclusive, Positive Learning Environment)
This past Saturday, nine Julian teams competed in the Vex Robotics State Championship vying for Robotic supremacy over eight other schools, and they did not disappoint. The Julian tradition of Vex domination in the state continued with various teams bringing home five awards, which included the all important Excellence Award.
Team C-rius Black was bestowed the Thinker Award, recognizing outstanding coding skills. The team consisted of the following students: Megan Chyna, Louis DeLano, Olivia Lonergan, Michael Oltman, Joshua Riley, and Lillian Rowland.
Team Bewitched earned the coveted Design Award, recognizing the entire process of imagining the robot, documenting the entire process, and finally executing the design. The team consisted of the following students: Najda Hadi-St. John, Jadyn Hill, Janae Hill, Janine Hill, Abbey Mullen, and Monet Tramel.
Team Kryptonite out performed the entire field of 26 robots by taking home three trophies! Along with leading their alliance to a first place finish in the competition, the team attained the highest score in the skills challenge earning the title State Skills Champion. If that was not enough, Kryptonite was given the highest honor in the Vex Robotics world, the Excellence Award, recognizing its overall design and superior functionality. The team consisted of the following students: Jacob Drews, Emily Hsieh, Senja Peters, Mia Rossbach, Sam Warzecha, and Xander Wells.
