Julian Middle School Garden

It’s Happening!!!  PJMS is making great strides on our outdoor school garden project. A place where we can foster Academic Excellence, Social Equity, and Developmental Responsiveness growth. Our garden will be hands on, real life focused, and immediately improve the environment around us.

Teachers Michael Youngberg, Chris Meglan, and Timothy Walsh have guided the students through three parts of Phase 1 of our plan, to create a Working Raised Bed Garden on the East side of the school where 6th graders line up in the morning. Structured raised garden beds have been built by the students and staff. Although they increase the initial investment of time and money, which we are thankful to the PTO and Julian Middle School budgets for supporting us, these raised bed gardens will be easier for our students and staff to maintain and allow us to spend more time learning in the garden, rather than struggling with challenges like difficult soil conditions and weeds. They also provide garden programs with a more permanent presence encouraging participants and administrators to view the garden as an important resource that should be used often and sustained over time.
