Candidates for D97 Board Vacancy to Participate in Virtual Panel on Sept. 27

The District 97 Board of Education will hold a special board meeting on Monday, Sept. 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. to interview five individuals who are seeking to fill its vacant board seat.

The board will utilize a panel-style interview process in open session. Each candidate will have two minutes to share an opening statement regarding their interest in the board vacancy before board members ask questions. Candidates will then be given three minutes for closing remarks.

Additional interviews with finalists may be held at a later date during executive session. The board expects to make an appointment no later than Oct. 30.

There are five candidates seeking to fill the vacant position:

  • Kerri Joy
  • Shyla Kinhal
  • Jennifer Kovar
  • Gabriel Salazar

Virtual Meeting Information

District 97 is holding board meetings in accordance with the state's current COVID-19 guidelines. Regular and special board meetings are currently being held on site for District 97 Board of Education members only. 

Given COVID-19 considerations, the administration has determined that it is not feasible to allow members of the public to attend the meeting in-person. The public may participate in board meetings through Zoom. Links will be included in meeting agendas, which are posted at https://www.op97.org/boe/meeting-packets.

Public Comment

Members of the public will be offered an opportunity to address the board during the public comment portion of the meeting via video/telephone access with prior notice to the District. For those who wish to address the board live during the meeting, please email [email protected] before 4 p.m. on the day of the board meeting, and a Zoom link will be provided. Your name will be called when it is your time to speak. Alternatively, members of the public may submit public comments by email prior to the board meeting, to be announced during the public comment portion of the meeting. Email submissions should be made by 5:30 p.m. on the date of the meeting and sent to [email protected].
