Message from March 16, 2018

Report cards were sent home today. Be on the lookout!!

On Tuesday, March 6th three teams of 5th graders competed in the Hatch Reading Olympics! These teams worked together to read 9 books and answered a number of questions about the books. The winning team was Greenish Milki! The team then went on to the Regional Competition at the River Forest Public Library on Tuesday, March 13th. Greenish Milk did a wonderful job representing Hatch and made it the the second round of the competition. Great job to all the 5th graders who participated in this round of the Reading Olympics!

The Hatch Steel Band is back at work on their third professionally recorded album.  Senor Bruno (yes, the husband of Senora Bruno) converted the music room into a professional recording studio! Students in all grade levels got a tour of the studio and learned about the recording process during music class.  Steel Band students had the opportunity to record their songs, while also having the opportunity to see up close everything that goes into making a high end audio recording.

The 27th Annual District 97 Choral Festival is around the corner. On Thursday, March 22nd, the elementary and middle school choruses in Oak Park will come together to present an evening of song at Oak Park River Forest High School, 7:00 p.m. The concert will combine almost 900 chorus members from our ten schools.  All students in the Hatch Chorus will be participating. The concert is free and open the public.

Instead of a Spirit Day this month and in keeping with our theme of It’s Your World, student council  going to sponsor Random Acts of Kindness for next week. Classroom reps will introduce the idea to the class, and watch this very cute 2 1/2 minute video. Students council will also make posters and hang them around the school. Please join us in this movement by discussing random acts of kindness you can do as a family!

See attached flyer for more information regarding the upcoming Kids Kreation Fundraiser and Spring Arts Fiesta.

Spring Pictures will be on Friday, April 6th.

Just a reminder there is NO SCHOOL on Tuesday, March 20th due to elections and our District 97 Institute Day for staff.
