Message from Oct. 5, 2018

We have enjoyed some beautiful weather this past week mixed with a bit of rain. In the event of rain or inclement weather, we ask you to bring students to the playground doors no earlier than 7:50. We will have staff available to help them to their designated area. Kindergarten and first graders will report to the lunchroom. All other grades will report to their seats in the auditorium until teachers pick them up at 7:57am.

International Walk to School Day is next Wednesday, October 10, 2018. Walk-to-School Day is a celebration to increase awareness of "Earth Friendly" ways of getting to school (biking, jogging, skating, walking, etc.)  A group of students from Hatch's very own Green Team will be on the blacktop before school, stamping the hands of all the Tigers who participate in a green way of getting to school that day.

Last call to change your permission to “Yes to Directory.”  Please contact the office by Wednesday, October 10th, to change your student’s permission to “Yes to Directory” or your student will NOT be included in the Hatch School Directory that is being printed next week.

On Thursday, October 11th, Hatch Elementary students, along with students from across the state of Illinois, will participate in the Great Apple Crunch to celebrate National Farm to School Month by crunching into locally grown apples. All students from Hatch Elementary will have an opportunity to taste a locally-grown apple either through the school-provided lunch or by visiting the Wellness Committee's table during the lunch hour. Two nutritionists will be available to discuss the nutritional benefits of apples and locally grown foods with the students. The apples provided to Hatch students are grown at Rendleman Orchards in Alto Pass, Illinois. For more information on the Illinois Great Apple Crunch, visit Illinois Great Apple Crunch.

DENTAL CLINIC: For the first time, dental exams will be offered at Hatch for any student. The clinic will be in school on November 1st and 2nd. See the attached flyer. Permission slips will be sent home soon. Also, be sure to check out our attached October Hatch Health Newsletter, courtesy of Nurse Rossi.

September Birthday Books: Since school has started, we have celebrated over 50 birthdays in the library. This means we have added over 50 books to the library collection in honor of their birthdays! Birthday books are library books that the students are the first to check out and a birthday plate is placed in honor of their birthday. Please enjoy the excitement of the students getting to pick a birthday book by clicking here! Remember, to make donations for the Birthday Book program, please go to the Birthday Book Website!

Library Happenings during September: We have been very busy in the library since school has started. To see all we have been doing, be sure to watch this short video!

The Fall Celebration is at the end of this month. We encourage food free celebrations. However, if room parents plan to serve food as part of the classroom celebration, the food plan must to be submitted to Nurse Rossi via e-mail no later than October 17th.  If you have not submitted a plan by October 17th, then it is assumed that no food will be served at the celebration. The food chosen should be from the approved food list.  Please let Nurse Rossi know as soon as possible what you plan to serve. Thank you so much for your patience and cooperation to ensure that we have a safe celebration for all of our children!

Please remember there is NO SCHOOL Monday, October 8th. Enjoy the long weekend!
