Message from Oct. 19, 2018

Conferences are next week! Our amazing PTO will be providing child care on our late night, Thursday the 25th, from 12:30-7pm. Students will be dismissed at 11:00am both Thursday the 25th and Friday the 26th. While you are here for conferences, please take a moment to check the Lost and Found. All items not claimed will be donated to families in need after conference week. Please write your child’s name in any item that might find its way to the Lost and Found. Also, please do not forget to complete a district wide survey on safe routes to school while you’re here!

The Hatch Student Council will be sponsoring our first school spirit/ #DoSomething day on Friday, October 26th. Come to school with crazy hair, and donate a dollar to Wonder Works Children’s Museum, to help their community scholarship program to enable all kids from the Oak Park/ River Forest/ Chicago area to visit the museum regardless of income level. All of our school spirit days this year will combine fun with civic action to show all of our Hatch Tigers that they can #DoSomething!

Don’t forget to email your child’s teacher if your child needs to have their school photo retaken.  See the attached flyer regarding Picture Retake Day, scheduled for Thursday, October 25, 2018.

In an effort to reduce the frequency of interruptions to classroom instruction, we will be implementing a new system for the delivery of forgotten items each morning, beginning Monday, October 22, 2018. We will be setting up a drop off location in the main entrance vestibule where you can drop off the item for delivery.  If you do need to drop off an item that your child cannot do without, please make sure any items you bring are labeled with your child’s name and teacher’s name with the label securely attached to the item and delivered no later than 10am.  Place the item in the appropriate bin so that we can ensure your child receives their item. At 10am each day, all items will be distributed directly to the classrooms. No items will be accepted after 10 am. We encourage you to have your child check that their bag is prepared the night before as we work on our “Be Responsible” Hatch habit. We hope this new system will help ensure that we are not interrupting our children’s instructional time as we know how important that is. Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we continually strive to make improvements to the learning experience!

Each year we strive to improve the school experience we provide to our students. In order to do so, we need your input. I’d like to invite parents to a “Coffee with the Principal” on Thursday, October 25th at 8am in the conference room. This is an informal gathering. Please feel free to stay 5 minutes or 45 minutes as your schedule permits and be sure to sign in at the main office. See you then!

Due to continued construction and an extra round of abatement, we will need to close our east playground entrance again beginning next week. We will use the same entrance and exit procedures as before. Thank you for your patience as we create our new sound studio!

This year, the district will be hosting three Vision97 4ALL community summits during which we will report on the progress we have made on our priorities for the 2018-19 school year. The first summit will be on Oct. 30th from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Brooks. You can access additional information about these events by visiting http://bit.ly/2RtNIQD. Your help in sharing this information with your staff, especially the details about the event on Oct. 30th, would be appreciated.

As we approach the end of the month, here are a few Halloween reminders:

~Lunch is from 12:00-12:55.  Students will change into costumes after lunch.

~The Parade will begin at 1:20. We will exit through the west playground doors and head south on Ridgeland, then east on Berkshire and then north on Harvey back to school. Please stand on the grass to take pics and cheer us on!

~If you are coming in after the parade to volunteer in the classroom, please be sure to sign in and get a visitor’s badge at the main office.

~No weapons, scary masks/props, or culturally insensitive costumes. Please see the attachments from Lynn Allen and information to remind us that cultures are not costumes.

~All food items must have been pre-approved by the nurse two weeks in advance. Food free celebrations are encouraged.  The safety of our students is of the utmost importance.

~Any families that prefer their child(ren) not take part in the Halloween celebrations, please speak with your child’s teacher about the alternate activity.

Looking forward to celebrating with our amazing Hatch community!
