Thank you to all the families that came out to our first ever Family Literacy Night/Coffee House. We hope that you learned some new strategies you can use with your family at home. Thank you to Ms. Howe and all the teachers who stayed late to make the night a huge success!
Conferences are next week! Our amazing PTO will be providing child care on our late night, Thursday the 31st, from 12:30-7pm. Students will be dismissed at 11:00 am both Thursday, January 31st and Friday, February 1st. While you are here for conferences, please take a moment to check the Lost and Found. All items not claimed will be donated to families in need after conference week. Please write your child’s name in any item that might find its way to the Lost and Found. Also, please do not forget to complete a district wide survey on safe routes to school while you’re here!
One Book One School: Wishtree is happening! Every school night, your family is asked to spend about 15 minutes together reading Wishtree by Katherine Applegate. There is a pacing calendar created to help everyone stay on track and have great discussions about the book. If you want to listen to the book instead of reading it, check out the One Book One School website. Also on the website, you will find discussion questions to go along with the readings, previous trivia questions, vocabulary help and photos. If you have any photos of your family reading, please send them to Mrs. Howe to add to the website. Every family should have received their book by now, if you haven't please contact Mrs. Howe.
Also, Katherine Applegate is coming to Naperville this Tuesday! Your family is welcome to get FREE tickets to meet her and hear her speak! For more information click here.
Read to Succeed: Don't forget while your family is reading Wishtree to complete the Six Flags Read to Succeed Log. The logs are due by Friday, February 8th.
Please be sure to complete this year’s Illinois 5Essentials Survey! This is a unique opportunity to not only provide feedback to the school and district, but to support Hatch on a larger scale. School-level reports will be generated if at least 20 percent of parents respond to the survey. It should only take approximately 10 minutes to complete. If parents have more than one child that attends the same school, they may elect to participate multiple times. For parents with children enrolled in multiple schools, we recommend that they participate in the survey for each school. Mann School has once again challenged us to a competition around parent participation, so please help us reach our goal. Thank you for your support!

As we are in the midst of cold and flu season, please remind your child about the importance of handwashing. Please also make sure your child has a warm coat they can zip or button independently as well as a hat, scarf, and warm gloves especially in the midst of these frigid temperatures. When snow arrives boots and snow pants are a great choice to avoid wet, cold feet and pants. Students also need to bring gym shoes for PE if they are walking to school in boots. Thank you for your help in making sure the kids are warm and comfortable in the cold weather!
