Message from Feb. 1, 2019

Thank you to all the parents who braved the cold to come out for parent teacher conferences. We appreciate your partnership in supporting our students’ progress. It’s hard to believe we have already completed 100 days of school, but here we are! To celebrate, today our Kindergarteners practiced counting to 100 and dressed up like cowfolk. Be sure to wish your student a happy 100th day!

Please be sure to complete this year’s Illinois 5Essentials Survey! This is a unique opportunity to not only provide feedback to the school and district, but to support Hatch on a larger scale.  It should only take approximately 10 minutes to complete. If parents have more than one child that attends the same school, they may elect to participate multiple times. For parents with children enrolled in multiple schools, we recommend that they participate in the survey for each school. Mann School has once again challenged us to a competition around parent participation, so please help us reach our goal. Thank you for your support!

In order to ensure the safety of our students, we are asking parents who drive their children to please drive slowly and carefully when near school grounds. Please obey all traffic laws and be extra careful at intersections. Please do not double park nor block the street nor driveways during drop off/pick up. Whenever possible, please opt to walk your student to and from school. Let’s all work together to keep our students safe!

We hope that everyone enjoyed reading Wishtree to keep warm during the Polar Vortex! We are not modifying the schedule at all due to cold day so please use the weekend to get caught up. Everyone should be at the end of Chapter 18, and below is a reminder of next week's schedule. Thank you again for participating and as always be sure to check out the website for great discussion questions to talk about with your family.

  • Week 3:
    • February 4th: Chapters 19 - 21
    • February 5th: Chapters 22 -24
    • February 6th: Chapters 25 - 27

Our Jump Rope for Heart week is coming up (week of Valentine's Day 2-11-19 thru 2-15-19). During that week, the older book buddies visit their younger book buddies P.E. class and assist with turning ropes and totaling up jumps.

This year 26 individuals from Oak Park District 97 are participating in the Polar Plunge in the frigid Lake Michigan waters in Evanston on 2/17/19 at 1pm. We have Andy Righeimer and Porsche Winfield who will be representing William Hatch School and plunging!  Please click the links below to help us reach our fundraising goals.

What is Polar Plunge: Oak Park District 97 has at least 1 staff member from all 11 buildings (26 total plungers!) participating in the Polar Plunge this year.  As a group, we will plunge (some partially and others fully) into the frigid waters of Lake Michigan to support Special Olympics in Oak Park and throughout IL.

When/Where is our Polar Plunge: 2/17/19 (Sunday) at 2311 Campus Drive in Evanston at 1:00pm.

Why Oak Park is Plunging: Did you know that Oak Park District 97 has 7 Special Olympics sports? We have one of the largest Special Olympics sport options based on our district size in the entire state!  We offer: soccer, basketball, rhythmic gymnastics, track, golf (new sport), bowling (new sport) and Young Athletes (3-8 yr. olds).  Special Olympics has given D97 thousands of dollars in grants since 2012. By supporting our plunge, this is a way to continue the high level of programs that we offer in the district. Thank you for your donation and helping to support Special Olympics in Oak Park and throughout IL!
