Message from April 26, 2019

Thanks to everyone for your participation in the “CAN DO” challenge! Ms. Ficca will be delivering the food and donations on Tuesday after school on behalf of the Hatch community. Thank you to all the parent volunteers who made our spring book fair possible. The students are still buzzing about their new texts!

Spring is another time when we “take the temperature” on our students’ progress to ensure we are designing instructional experiences to meet the needs of each individual learner. Our spring MAP testing for 2nd-5th graders will begin next week. As with every school day, please be sure your child has gotten a good night’s rest and eaten a healthy breakfast as they head off to school on time! The specific testing days and times are listed below for your information.

Please help spread the word! Our Kindergarten Open House is next Wednesday May 1st from 3-4pm. Please extend the invitation to any incoming Kindergarten families you know! Also the LAST DAY OF SPRING REGISTRATIONS - (KINDERGARTEN ONLY) is April 30 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the district offices.

The Specials Team is pleased to present the 5th Annual Spring Arts Fiesta, a celebratory show of your students artistic, musical, linguistic and movement-centered learning at Hatch. The shows will take place the evenings of Wednesday, May 15th and Thursday, May 16th.  All k-5th students will have an artwork in the gallery and all 1st-5th grade students will participate in the music and language performances. You may view and purchase your student’s framed artwork for $20 from 5:30-7:30 pm on the evenings of May 15th or 16th, but it is not required. In order to buy the frame for the artwork, please visit the cashier table with your art and turn in the attached label card. All un-purchased pieces will be returned by the end of the year.  On Wednesday night, the Oak Park Public Library Book Bike will also be here weather permitting. We look forward to seeing you there!

Just a reminder, we do not have staff supervision before and after school. Please be sure to actively supervise your little ones if they play on school property outside of school hours. Thank you for keeping all students safe at Hatch!

If your child enjoys playing GaGa Ball at recess, please consider sending them to school with “GaGa gloves.” Any old pair of thin gloves can help protect little knuckles from scrapes. Thank you!

On Saturday, April 27, there will be a parent café at the main branch of the Oak Park Public Library that will also serve as the first official meeting of the Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee in D97. The event will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and food and childcare will be provided. Below are links to a flyer for the event that has been translated into several languages.

PTO Reminders

  • Thanks to all who shopped and volunteered at the spring Book Fair. The Fair’s proceeds will help provide classroom materials for Hatch teachers in the Fall.
  • Saturday, April 27 is first meeting of D97 Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee. The cafe is open to all parents and families of ESL students, parents with limited English, bilingual parents, and all concerned members of the community.   • District 97's annual Adventure Run for students in grades K-5 will be held on Saturday, May 4. Learn more about this event >
  • Final PTO Meeting of the school year is May 14, 7pm. Make plans to attend. Free childcare in the lunchroom.
  • Volunteers needed for Spring Arts Fiesta to decorate before, and clean up decorations the Friday after. Dates and sign up info here.
    • Tuesday, May 14th from 12-4pm to hang up Spring Arts Fiesta decorations
    • Wednesday, May 15th, from 2:30-4:30 to put up ceramic display and finish decorating
    • Friday, May 17th, 11am-2pm for decoration take down
  • D97 Technology Survey: D97 is collecting data through a partnership with BrightBytes to better understand the impact that technology has on student learning. Parents are asked to fill out an anonymous technology and learning questionnaire. Please click here to complete the survey for Hatch.
  • Hatch Brick Fundraiser - The Hatch PTO invites you to commemorate a graduation, celebrate a special occasion, or remember a friend or loved one. The next bricks will be installed this summer along the “Tiger Trail” in out outdoor classroom. Sponsoring a paver is an easy way to leave your legacy and support Hatch’s new outdoor gardens. COST - $50 for 4x8 engraved brick.  An engraved icon can be added for another$10/brick.  To participate: Return order forms to the office by 5/31/19 with a check payable to Hatch PTO.  Please contact [email protected] with questions. Look for order forms beginning Sunday in the Hatch Happenings.
  • Our students count on parent volunteers to keep the wonderful PTO-sponsored events up and running. The PTO needs volunteers for next school year. All money raised goes back to our students in the form of discounted field trips, special assemblies, additional programming, various remodeling projects, and many other funding requests.       • Tiger Cash (Gift Card Program): Looking for a parent to run the monthly gift card program.
      • Movie Matinee: Need a volunteer to run the popular monthly after school event.

      • Bowling Fundraiser: Need a volunteer to fun this popular spring event. The current Chair is very organized and will hand over all documents for an easy transition.
      • Parent/Teacher Basketball Game: Need a volunteer to organize concessions and collect ticket $.

  • Hephzibah has limited openings in their Summer day program. Payment is done on a sliding scale based on income.  Visit their website for an application.
  • Summer BASE Camp: There are limited spots available in BASE Camp's new Eco-Poets and Know It, Grow It camps for rising third and fourth graders. Learn more at https://www.opef.org/base-camp/.
