Message from November 15, 2019

This week we welcomed visitors from central office who walked the building with some of our teacher leaders in order to help us as we work toward our school improvement goals. Here are just some of the trends they noticed across classrooms. Kudos to the amazing teachers who spend hours planning for our students’ educational experience at Hatch. Creating this type of school culture centered in all students learning is no easy task!

  • classroom routines and procedures were well established;

  • students were able to relate the “why” of their learning;

  • high levels of student engagement were evident;

  • it was clear that teachers enjoyed teaching;

  • students were eager to share their learning with peers and with the observers;

  • new curricula were seamlessly integrated into instruction;

  • teacher-student relationships were clearly positive;

  • small group instruction and conferencing were evident;

  • multiple avenues into student learning existed by leveraging differentiated tasks;

  • in the moment formative assessments were evident;

  • expectations were clear and students were responsive;

  • multisensory strategies were employed;

  • students responded well to transitions and transitions were efficient;

  • student ownership of learning was evident;

  • students were able to connect their learning to their lives;

  • The work done in the media center was authentically connected to the task expectations of the classroom teachers

We’ve experienced some colder temperatures this week. Please know that we will be outside unless the temperature or wind chill reaches single digits, so please always check the forecast and have your child dress appropriately. Here is a nice visual for teaching children how we prepare for the cold weather.

FLU SEASON IS HERE!!!  Flu is a serious illness. The BEST way to prevent flu for you and your child is to get a flu shot. Feel free to contact Nurse Rossi for additional questions.

District 97’s vision is that EVERY child experiences a sense of belonging in our schools. Belonging means access to teaching and learning that is engaging, stimulating and challenging for ALL instead of just a select few.
