Message from December 6, 2019

Thank you so much to everyone that attended the book fair this week and to all the parent volunteers who made the experience possible. It was so great to see the kids so excited about the great books! Thank you to Mr. Cruz and all the parent volunteers who made this year’s Turkey Trot such a wonderful experience for all!

Please be sure to complete this year’s Illinois 5Essentials Survey! This is a unique opportunity to not only provide feedback to the school and district, but to support Hatch on a larger scale. School-level reports will be generated if at least 20 percent of parents respond to the survey.  It should only take approximately 10 minutes to complete. If parents have more than one child that attends the same school, they may elect to participate multiple times. For parents with children enrolled in multiple schools, we recommend that they participate in the survey for each school. Thank you for your support!

Thank you to those of you who are already signing in at the main office when entering the building. We love having such a strong parent presence in our school! As we work together to ensure everyone’s safety, please try to remember that all visitors must enter through the main office and get a visitor’s badge.  Beginning in January we will be piloting a new system called LobbyGuard, similar to what the high school uses to check in visitors. The letter describing the change is posted on the district website, and includes a link to the FAQs. This small step in our procedures is important in emergency situations to make sure every person in the building is accounted for. We appreciate your cooperation as we work together to keep our children safe!

The Teaching and Learning Department is hosting a Parent University on Saturday, December 14th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Lincoln Elementary School, 1111 S. Grove. We are excited to offer a morning of exploring curricula used in D97 and the resources your students use each day.  The theme of our Parent University is Cozy up to Curriculum.

Registration is required. Please click here to register.

FLU SEASON IS HERE!!!  Flu is a serious illness. The BEST way to prevent flu for you and your child is to get a flu shot. Feel free to contact Nurse Rossi for additional questions.

The Winter Celebration is at the end of December. We encourage food free celebrations. However, if room parents plan to serve food as part of the classroom celebration, the food plan must have been submitted to Nurse Rossi via email two weeks in advance.  If you have not yet submitted a plan, then it is assumed that no food will be served at the celebration. The food chosen should be from the approved food list. Thank you so much for your patience and cooperation to ensure that we have a safe celebration for all of our children!

District 97 is seeking social media ambassadors who are willing to share news and information about our efforts to support all students. If you are interested in being an ambassador for the 2019-20 school year, please complete our online form. If you have any questions, please email the district's director of communications, Amanda Siegfried, at [email protected].
