Message from March 6, 2020

Be sure to join us at next week’s PTO meeting on Tuesday at 8am in the cafeteria! Our presentation topic is supporting students with executive functioning.

IAR Testing Starts Next Week!

Our students will take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness on March 11th- March 22nd.

  • 3rd grade and 5W:  March 11th- March 13th

  • 4th grade:  March 16th, 18th and March 19th

  • 5th grade:  March 30th- April 1st

ISA (Science Test) 5th Grade-  April 2nd, 3rd

*Don’t forget to send your child in with headphones if they don’t already have them at school.*

Students should make every effort to be present and on time to school during the testing window. Should an illness or unforeseen absence occur, the student will participate in make-up testing. Parents, please assist your child in being prepared for testing. Eating breakfast and being well-rested will help your student to do his or her best. Discussing the importance of the test while minimizing any anxieties your child may be feeling is helpful as well.

Kindergarten and new student registration for 2020-21 has begun.  For dates and more information, please see the attached flyer.

Deadline Approaching!  The deadline to purchase the 2019-2020 Yearbook is March 26!  Click here  for more information and/or click here for link to purchase.

FLU SEASON IS HERE!!!  There have been several confirmed cases of flu at Hatch.  Flu is a serious illness. If your child is ill, please make sure they are fever free for 24hours before having them return to school. The BEST way to prevent flu for you and your child is to get a flu shot. Feel free to contact Nurse Rossi for additional questions.

District 97 is continuing to monitor the news regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19). We have been following recommendations from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), which has been receiving guidance from the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Please be assured that we are following all recommended protocols of the IDPH, which includes routine deep cleaning and disinfecting in all of our buildings. Our amazing Nurse Rossi is also reviewing hand-washing best practices with all of our students. We will continue to monitor updates about the coronavirus from local, state and federal agencies, and will keep families informed should recommendations change.

The IDPH recommends everyday actions to help prevent the spread of viruses, including:

·  Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

·  Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

·  Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

·  Stay home when you are sick.

·  Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

·  Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

·  We are also recommending a comic developed by NPR and experts to help kids understand coronavirus: https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2020/02/28/809580453/just-for-kids-a-comic-exploring-the-new-coronavirus
