Dear Hatch Families,

We completed our first round of SHIELD testing this week. Families will not be notified unless their child received a positive result or are a close contact to a positive case. In the case of a positive result, we follow all guidelines for notification and quarantine as outlined by the Oak Park Health Department. For information on positive cases at Hatch and in all D97 schools, please visit our Covid Dashboard on the 97 website. Positivity rates for students in our district are extremely low and routine testing is one of the most important strategies for schools to stay open. Thank you for your patience as we have worked to get this going in our schools!

Hatch Needs you!  Would you consider supervising your child’s classroom during lunch? It would only be for 2 hours a day!  We can’t wait to see you on the blacktop!

3L- (Ms. Lyles)- Wednesday

Our next virtual “Coffee with the Principal” will be Friday, Oct. 1st from 8:15-9:00am and will include Nurse Rossi as our special guest! This is an informal gathering.  Please feel free to stay 5 minutes or 45 minutes as your schedule permits.  Zoom link to follow. See you then!

Second Step is the curriculum we use across our entire district to teach important social emotional learning skills.  This week students were taught lesson 3 and our Kindergarten, First and Second graders learned how important it is to repeat directions to themselves or use their “self talk” to focus and follow directions.  Our older students learned about being assertive and how they can express their needs and wants in the classroom in a way that’s calm, firm, and respectful.  Below are “Home Links” that provide some information about what your student learned and some possible ways you can extend that learning to your own home.

Kindergarten: Following Directions

First Grade: Following Directions

Second Grade: Using Self Talk

Third Grade: Being Assertive

Fourth Grade: Being Assertive

Fifth Grade: Being Assertive

Our first virtual PTO meeting will be next Tuesday September 21st at 7pm.
