Ms. Ruff would like to share our final product for our School Wide Self-Portrait Art Installation. ALL K-5th graders spent the first week or two of art designing their self-portraits. We tried to make them as realistic as possible! The only 'rule' for this lesson was how they colored their frame. Each grade was assigned a color... Kindergarten: Red, 1st Grade: Orange, 2nd Grade: Yellow, 3rd Grade: Green, 4th Grade: Blue, 5th Grade: Purple. This "secret color code" helped make our final products feel more connected when displayed together. I often hear students walking by saying, "Wow, a 1st grader drew that? It's amazing!" Each portrait was hung up together, and we were blown away by how impactful it was to see our entire school's portraits displayed together. This lesson is an excellent reminder that as individuals, we are unique... Together, we are powerful!!!
