Thank you to all the families who attended our conferences this week.  Our dedicated teachers worked long and hard to prepare for the many conference meetings in addition to delivering high-quality instruction to students each day.  We truly appreciate your time and partnership as we do our best to meet the needs of all our students! Thank you also to our amazing PTO for the delicious conference lunch provided to our staff.

Please complete this survey to provide District 97 and your school with feedback about your experience at conferences. We will be using this data to reflect and redesign our family conferences to best meet the needs of students and families. If you have multiple children, please complete one survey per child. Please do not include specific teacher names in the survey. If you have specific feedback for teachers, please contact them directly.

Second Step BPU Lesson 3: This week, our students were taught lesson 3 of the Bullying Prevention Unit lessons. Our youngest students (grades K-3) learned how to refuse bullying by saying words that mean “no” in an assertive way when bullying is happening. Our older students (4th and 5th grade) learned about bystander responsibility. They watched videos to identify bullying and brainstormed actions that bystanders could take.  They then role-played what to do after bullying occurred. We never have students role-play bullying, but practicing the actions, you can take as a bystander makes it easier to follow through in real-life situations!  Below are the home links for the upcoming lesson if you’d like to preview them with your child.

Save the date! Our next “Coffee with the Principal,” in collaboration with the PTO, will be Thursday, November 10th, from 8:00-8:45 am in the cafeteria. This is an informal gathering, but please sign in at the main office.  Feel free to stay 5 minutes or 45 minutes as your schedule permits.  See you then!

Halloween: We will continue the tradition of our annual Halloween parade on Monday, October 31st, at 1:45 pm. Classes will exit through the West playground doors, walk on the sidewalk around the field and re-enter through the East playground doors. Families are encouraged to gather along the route to cheer on our tigers! Any volunteers entering the building must check in with the main office and wear a visitor badge to gain access. Mark your calendars!

Halloween reminders:

  • Students will change into costumes after lunch.
  • Costumes need to go on over students’ clothing, and children should be able to put their costumes on independently.
  • The Parade will begin at 1:45. We will exit through the west playground doors, head south on Ridgeland, east on Berkshire, and then north on Harvey back to school. Please stand on the grass to take pics and cheer us on!
  • No weapons, scary masks/props, or culturally insensitive costumes. Please remember that cultures are not costumes.
  • NO food items are allowed. Food-free celebrations are part of our district-wide policy.  The safety of our students is of the utmost importance.
  • Any families that prefer their child(ren) not to participate in the Halloween celebrations, please speak with your child’s teacher about the alternate activity.

We are looking forward to celebrating with our fantastic Hatch community!
