It’s been a busy week at Hatch!! The PBIS Committee is excited to reintroduce “Tiger Dens” to our students. Tiger Dens consist of multi-age groups of 12-15 students that will meet monthly to participate in various team-building activities. All students will participate, and a Hatch staff member will lead each Den. The purpose is to foster a sense of community and belonging among students. Our first Tiger Den took place on Monday... What an excellent opportunity for our Hatch Tigers!

Today was another Student Council spirit day: Celebrity day. Students and staff dressed as celebrities from today and throughout history. Ms. Lyles went all out on her costume! Then our student council members spread kindness throughout the school by writing notes and leaving them on lockers. Please feel free to join in the fun by writing kind notes to others at home!

We also enjoyed a visit from the NIU Steel Drum Band. Be sure to ask your child about the fun they had!

Please be sure to complete this year’s Illinois 5Essentials Survey! This is a unique opportunity to not only provide feedback to the school and district but to support Hatch on a larger scale. School-level reports will be generated if at least 20 percent of parents respond to the survey.  It should only take approximately 10 minutes to complete. If parents have more than one child that attends the same school, they may elect to participate multiple times. For parents with children enrolled in multiple schools, we recommend that they participate in the survey for each school. Thank you for your support!

2023 Illinois Parent Survey
It opens on Jan. 24, 2023, and closes on March 31, 2023.

One Book, One District: Elementary Edition: The entire elementary district of D97 will be doing One Book, One School TOGETHER!  The book will kick off THIS FRIDAY, February 3rd, and end on March 3rd with a STEAM NIGHT at the Main Public Library (time is TBD).  Students may bring a stuffy that fits in their backpack to school on Friday, February 3rd, to celebrate! Clues for the book will be given in the Hatch Newsroom, and students will receive their book on Friday after the kick-off. Questions to Ms. Stringham - [email protected]

Kindergarten Parents, We NEED YOU!  We would love more help during our lunch hour. We would like to offer our Kindergarteners a separate place to play, but we need more supervision. Can you help? Our lunch hour is from 11:45- 12:50. Here is a link for a Sign-Up Genius.  You can contact Ms. Winfield at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Second Step - This week, our students practiced their skills of managing emotions when they were faced with different scenarios.  Fifth graders learned to resist the urge to seek revenge, fourth graders learned to manage test anxiety, third graders practiced handling accusations, second graders practiced calming down when they’ve made a mistake, and our kindergartners and first graders learned how to calm down strong emotions and feelings.  All of our grade levels have catchy songs that help them remember to stop, name their feeling, and calm down.  Ask your child to sing it to you!

First Grade -  No Home Link
Second Grade -  Handling Making Mistakes
Third Grade -  Handling Accusations
Fourth Grade - Managing Anxiety
Fifth Grade -  Resisting Revenge

Information provided will also be shared with the Oak Park Department of Public Health.

2) Families must continue to report student absences via the school attendance line, and staff must enter their absences in Frontline.
