Nicholas Filipowski began his tenure as principal of Julian Middle School on July 1, 2024, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to educational excellence. He comes to Julian Middle School from Arlington Heights School District 25, where he served as associate principal of Thomas Middle School since 2019. Additionally, he led the district’s "Summer U" program as principal for five years and served as a curriculum coordinator for four years. His career in education began as a middle school and high school general and choral music teacher in Highland Park and Chicago.

Mr. Filipowski holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Illinois, a master’s degree in music education from Northwestern University, and a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from Concordia University. Throughout his twenty-year career, he has consistently demonstrated his dedication to fostering inclusive learning environments, building trust through effective communication, and creating systems to meet diverse student needs. Mr. Filipowski is excited to join the Jayhawk family and looks forward to collaborating with the dedicated staff and engaging with the Oak Park community to further develop an enriching and supportive learning environment for all students at Julian Middle School.
